FROZEN STRAWBERRY EXPORTS

Peruvian frozen strawberry exports have increased by almost 160% in 2021

Peru's agro exports will exceed $ 9 billion this year. "This is almost 16% more than in 2020. This is due to the good performance of some products, especially the flagship products, which have been generating this rebound. Fruit exports alone will exceed 4.5 billion dollars," stated Christian Garay, the general director of Statistics, Monitoring, and Evaluation of Policies of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

“Avocado exports have already exceeded 1 billion dollars, as we had anticipated. In fact, we project they will amount to 1.122 billion at the end of the year, i.e. almost 48% more than in 2020. We don't believe this value will be higher, as 99% of avocado sales abroad are concentrated in the first nine months of the year, and only 1% is concentrated in the last quarter.”

“Grape and blueberry exports will also surpass 1 billion dollars. Fresh grape exports will amount to 1.269 billion dollars, and blueberry exports would exceed 1.4 billion, almost 40% more than last year.”

"These three products will determine the dynamic or momentum that agricultural exports have had in 2021," Christian stressed.

Exports of frozen strawberries have also had an outstanding growth this year. "As of September, we already had achieved sales of nearly 30 million dollars and a growth rate of nearly 160% in the last nine months."

"This almost 30 million dollars only accounts for 25% of this year's placements, as 75% of exports are placed in the last quarter. That means that we expect that, by the end of 2021, frozen strawberry exports will surpass 100 million dollars. As such, this product will be part of the over-100-million-dollars group. Strawberries had never surpassed this barrier. Very few products, especially fruits, have achieved this. It is a huge leap for this product's agricultural exports,” stated Christian Garay.
